WORLD TOILET DAY 2014

Every time I’m ask what is my favorite part of our house, I am proud to say that’s it’s our toilet that I love the most. Yes! I take pride that my Mom and Auntie really trained as well when we were still young to always make sure that our toilet is clean. Even my friends who usually visit in our house, have commented that they also like our toilet.  In addition to that, as a psychology major, I have learned that toilet training is an important childhood stage experience. Lucky me, my parents did well on this.;-). That’s why I’m this OC now.

Unfortunately, only 4.5 billion have access to toilets or latrines – meaning that 2.5 billion people, mostly in rural areas, do not have proper sanitation, because of this, United Nations General Assembly in 2013 designated November 19 as World Toilet Day.

In partnership with Unilever Philippines and Domex Philippines, I am supporting this years’ World Toilet Day 4th year Anniversary and Domex’s One Million Clean Toilets Movement. Here’s a video, produced by Unilever Philippines, that is available on Youtube which shows how underprivileged Filipinos welcome the “arrival” of clean toilet facilities in their communities. “The video aims to make people realize the value of a toilet which most of us, unfortunately, take for granted,” said Dennis Chua, Domex Brand Manager.

According to the Department of Health, of the estimated 3,420 diarrhea-related deaths among Filipino children under 5 every year, around 2,000 could have been prevented by access to safe water, improved toilet sanitation and personal hygiene.

“This video should serve as a wake-up call for most of us. The little things we take for granted, like having a clean toilet, could mean the world to others and could definitely help save lives,” Chua said. If you’re reading this, kindly share and let your friends watch the video and help less privileged communities gain access to clean toilet facilities.

Each unique view translates into a pledge for the advocacy campaign which collects pledges from households to conscientiously maintain their own hygienic bathrooms. For every pledge received, Domex will donate P5 to UNICEF’s sanitation program, towards improving access to basic sanitation in deprived areas around the world, including the Philippines.

Join us in celebrating World Toilet Day by sharing and watching this video and help raise awareness to your family and friends.
